The UCSF Department of Epidemiology & Biostatistics (DEB) offers three degree programs -- Master of Science or PhD degrees -- in Epidemiology & Translational Science, Health Data Science and Clinical & Epidemiological Research. DEB trains students in methods for studying disease causes and prevention in general populations, evaluating diagnostic tests and treatment efficacy in clinical settings, and using evidence-based approaches in clinical practice. We offer high-quality education and training for undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral/fellowship students. The emphasis in all our programs is on the integration of population-based research methods with clinical applications.
DEB Degree Programs
PhD in Epidemiology and Translational Science
The Epidemiology and Translational Science (ETS) PhD program is a four- to five-year course of study for individuals who wish to pursue independent research careers in epidemiology and translational science and who have already completed master's-level training in epidemiology, public health, or a related field.
Master of Science Degree in Clinical and Epidemiological Research
The Master of Science (MS) in Clinical and Epidemiological Research (CER) is a two-year program for individuals who wish to master clinical research methods and pursue independent research careers.
Master of Science Degree in Health Data Science
The Master of Science (MS) Degree in Health Data Science (MiHDaS) is a two-year, in-person program in which students learn to apply biostatistics, data science and epidemiological thinking in clinical research settings.
